Worked example
With Vin 12 V and equal resistors of 1000 ohms, output is 12 × 1000 / 2000 = 6.00 V.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This is an estimate for an unloaded divider. It is not a substitute for a datasheet or a qualified electrician, and a connected load will pull the output below this value.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a load change the output?
A load in parallel with R2 lowers its effective resistance, so the divider ratio changes.
Can a divider power a circuit?
Only very light loads. Dividers waste power as heat and sag under load, so a regulator is the usual choice.
