URL Encoder & Decoder

How to use this tool

  1. Paste a URL or any text.
  2. Choose the operation: Encode component (for a value inside a URL), Encode full URL (keeps : / ? & intact), Decode, or Break down URL.
  3. Read the breakdown table if you only want to understand a link — nothing is fetched or visited.

Worked example

With the sample https://example.com/a b?x=hello world#part: Encode component turns the whole string into percent-encoded form (spaces become %20, and : / ? # are encoded too, because a component must not contain them). Encode full URL keeps the structure and only encodes the spaces. Break down URL reports scheme https, host example.com, path /a%20b (the parser percent-encodes the space, as a real URL must), query x=hello%20world, fragment part — all read from the text, with no request sent anywhere.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool never fetches a URL: the breakdown is a reading of the characters you pasted, so it cannot tell you whether the link works, where it redirects, or what the page contains. Decoding fails with a plain error on a lone or incomplete % sequence rather than guessing. Encoding is not encryption — anyone can decode the result.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use Encode component instead of Encode full URL?

Use component for a single value that will sit inside a URL, such as a search term. Use full URL when the whole address is already structured and only stray characters need encoding.

Does breaking down a URL visit the site?

No. The tool parses the text in your browser and sends no request, so it is safe to inspect a suspicious-looking link this way.
