Unicode Script Detector

How to use this tool

  1. Paste or type your text.
  2. Press Generate. Each character is assigned to a script by its Unicode range and the counts are shown.
  3. Use Load sample for a Latin plus Cyrillic example, or Clear to start again.

Worked example

For “Hello мир” the result is Latin 5, Cyrillic 3 and Space 1: the five Latin letters of “Hello”, the three Cyrillic letters of “мир”, and the single space between them.

What this tool does not do / Limits

Detection is by Unicode range only: it names the script a character belongs to, not the language of the text, since many languages share a script. Characters outside the listed ranges are reported as Other.

Frequently asked questions

Does it detect the language?

No. It detects scripts, not languages. English and French both use Latin, and Russian and Ukrainian both use Cyrillic, so a script count alone cannot name a language.

What counts as Other?

Any character whose Unicode range is not in the listed scripts — for example emoji and symbols — is grouped under Other rather than guessed.
