How to use this tool

  1. Pick a string from the list.
  2. Press Generate to play its reference tone. Tune your open string until it matches the tone, then press Clear to stop.
  3. Use Load sample to play the first string's tone.

Worked example

For the sample string G4, the reference tone is 392.00 Hz. Play it, tune that open string to match by ear, then move to the next string.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool plays reference tones only. It does not use your microphone, does not detect pitch, and cannot tell you whether your instrument is in tune — that judgement is yours, by ear, against the tone.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it not check my tuning?

Checking tuning would need microphone access and pitch detection, which this page deliberately does not do. It only plays a steady reference tone for you to match.

What tuning are these tones?

Standard tuning, as listed on the page. If your instrument uses a different tuning, these tones will not match it.
