What this tool does not do / Limits
This checks format and digit pattern only. It has no live bank database, so it does not confirm that a bank, branch, or account exists, and it must not be used to verify a payee.
Frequently asked questions
Does a valid format mean the sort code is real?
No. Any six digits pass the pattern check; only the bank can confirm a real sort code.
Why are sort codes written with dashes?
The XX-XX-XX grouping is the usual printed form and makes the six digits easier to read and copy.
