Worked example

A single-phase 50 kVA transformer at 230 V draws 50 × 1000 / 230 = 217.39 A.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This is an estimate assuming rated load at the stated voltage. It is not a substitute for the transformer datasheet or a qualified electrician, and it ignores losses, inrush current, and power factor.

Frequently asked questions

Why does three-phase give a lower current?

Three-phase power spreads across three lines, so the same kVA at the same line voltage needs less current per line.

Is this the current at full load?

Yes, at the full kVA rating. A lightly loaded transformer draws less.
