How to use this tool

  1. Enter the bill amount, the tip percentage, and how many people are splitting.
  2. Press Calculate. The tip, total and per-person amounts appear together.
  3. Round sensibly: per-person figures are shown to two decimals; in a real split, round up the last person's share so the bill is covered.

Worked example

With the sample (bill 120, tip 15%, 3 people), the tip is 18, the total is 138 and each person pays 46: 120 × 15 / 100 = 18, and 138 / 3 = 46 exactly.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool splits the total evenly. It does not handle unequal splits (people who ordered different amounts), tax added after the tip, or a service charge already included in the bill — check the bill first, so you do not tip twice. This tool does arithmetic only and is not financial advice.

Should I tip on the bill before or after tax?

Custom varies by place. This tool tips on the amount you enter, so enter the pre-tax amount if that is your local custom.

How do I split unevenly?

This tool splits evenly only. For uneven orders, work out each person's share of the bill plus their share of the tip separately.
