Worked example
A 5 by 4 room with 0.5 by 0.5 tiles and 10 percent waste needs 88 tiles, which is 9 boxes at 10 tiles per box.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This calculator assumes a rectangular room and identical rectangular tiles. It does not account for irregular shapes, patterns, cuts around fixtures, or broken tiles beyond the waste allowance you enter.
Frequently asked questions
Should I order exactly this many tiles?
Treat it as an estimate. Many tilers order a few extra tiles beyond the calculated waste for future repairs.
Does it handle non-rectangular rooms?
No. For irregular rooms, split the floor into rectangles and calculate each part separately.
