Text Shorten

How to use this tool

  1. Paste your paragraph and choose how many sentences to keep.
  2. Press Generate. Sentences are scored by how often their content words appear, and the top scorers are kept in their original order.
  3. Use Load sample for a four-sentence example shortened to two, or Clear to start again.

Worked example

For the sample paragraph about cats and dogs, keeping 2 sentences gives: “Cats groom themselves every day. Cats sleep for long hours each day.” Those two sentences score highest because the word “cats” and “day” repeat through the text.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This is extractive shortening, not AI summarising: it only keeps whole sentences from your text and never rewrites, rephrases or adds words. If your text has few repeated words, the choice of sentences is close to arbitrary, so always read the result before using it.

Frequently asked questions

How are sentences scored?

Content words (excluding common words like “the” and “are”) are counted across the whole text. A sentence scores the sum of the counts of its content words, so sentences using the text's most repeated words win.

Why were sentences kept in their original order?

Keeping the original order preserves the flow of your paragraph, even though the winning sentences were picked by score, not by position.
