SWIFT/BIC Code Finder

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the SWIFT/BIC code, 8 or 11 characters.
  2. Press Generate to check its format and see its parts.
  3. A valid format does not prove the bank or branch exists; confirm details with the bank.

Worked example

DEUTDEFF is 8 characters in the right pattern, so its format is valid: bank DEUT, country DE, location FF, and no branch code, which means head office.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This is a format and pattern check only. It uses no live bank database, and it does not confirm that a bank or branch exists, is active, or accepts a particular payment.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 8 and 11 characters?

An 8-character code has no branch part and refers to the head office; an 11-character code adds a 3-character branch part.

Does a valid format mean my payment will succeed?

No. Format validity is only the first check; the bank must also hold the account and accept the payment.
