SQL Index Advisor

How to use this tool

  1. Paste a SELECT query with WHERE, JOIN or ORDER BY clauses.
  2. Press Check to list the columns used for filtering and sorting.
  3. Use the suggestion as a starting point — confirm it against your real schema and query plan before creating an index.

Worked example

The sample query filters on email and status and sorts by created_at, so the tool suggests considering an index on (email, status, created_at), and lists email and status as filter columns.

What this tool does not do / Limits

Suggestions are heuristics from one query only. They ignore table size, existing indexes, selectivity, write load and your database's planner, so they are a starting point for investigation — never a create-this-index order.

Frequently asked questions

Should I create every suggested index?

No. Check whether a similar index already exists, how selective the columns are, and whether the query is actually slow. Unused indexes cost write time and storage.

Does it read my database?

No. It only reads the text you paste; it never connects to a database.
