Worked example
For text 0123456789AB with chunk size 5 and overlap 2, the step is 3 characters, giving 4 chunks: 01234, 34567, 6789A and 9AB.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This simulates plain character chunking with overlap only. It does not compute embeddings, does not split on sentences or tokens, and does not retrieve anything, so real pipeline chunk counts will differ.

Chunk size minus overlap. With size 5 and overlap 2, each chunk starts 3 characters after the last one.
Does it use embeddings?
No. This is a local character-splitting preview, with no model and no vector work involved.
