Operational Incident Cost Calculator
How to use this tool
- Enter the downtime hours, the cost per downtime hour and the repair cost.
- Press Generate to see the downtime cost and the total.
- Change the hours to compare a short outage with a long one.
Worked example
With 4 hours of downtime at 500 per hour plus 1200 of repair cost, downtime cost is 4 x 500 = 2000 and total incident cost is 2000 + 1200 = 3200.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This is an estimate from the numbers you enter, not financial advice. It counts only the downtime and repair figures given and ignores lost sales detail, reputation effects, penalties and staff time beyond the hourly rate entered.
Frequently asked questions
What should the hourly cost include?
Whatever the outage costs per hour for this operation, such as idle staff, lost output or service credits, as a single blended figure.
Does this cover follow-up work?
Only if you include it in the repair and recovery figure; otherwise add it there before pressing Generate.
