How to use this tool
- Enter the number.
- Enter the root degree: 2 for square root, 3 for cube root, and so on.

What this tool does not do / Limits
Results are real numbers only. Even roots of negative numbers have no real answer, so the tool reports that case as invalid instead of inventing a value.
Frequently asked questions
What is the square root of 16?
It is 4, because 4 x 4 = 16. Enter 16 with a root degree of 2 to check.
Can I take the cube root of a negative number?
Yes. The cube root of -27 is -3, because -3 x -3 x -3 = -27. Odd roots of negatives work; even roots do not.
