Morse Code Translator

How to use this tool

  1. Enter text, or Morse with spaces between letters and / between words.
  2. Press Text to Morse or Morse to text.
  3. Check the flag line: characters or codes the tool does not know are named, never silently dropped.

Worked example

With the sample SOS, the result is ... --- ...: S is three dots, O is three dashes, S is three dots again. In reverse, typing ... --- ... and pressing Morse to text returns SOS. Word gaps are written as “ / ” so the boundary between words survives the translation.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool covers letters, digits and the common punctuation listed in its code table. Accented letters, emoji and other symbols are flagged as unknown rather than translated silently — Morse code itself has no standard form for most of them, and inventing one would corrupt the message. There is no sound playback here; timing (the distinction between a dot, a dash and the gaps) is conveyed by the written symbols only.

Frequently asked questions

What do the spaces and slashes mean?

A space separates letters; “ / ” separates words. Without the word separator, the receiver could not tell where one word ends and the next begins.

Why is an unknown character flagged instead of skipped?

Because silently dropping a character changes the message without telling you. A flag lets you rephrase or spell the character out.
