LC Resonance Calculator
How to use this tool
- Enter the inductance in microhenries and the capacitance in picofarads.
- Press Generate to see the resonant frequency.
- Use Load sample for 100 microhenries and 100 picofarads.
Worked example
For 100 microhenries and 100 picofarads, the resonant frequency is 1 / (2 x pi x square root of (100 x 10^-6 x 100 x 10^-12)) = 1,591,549 Hz, about 1.59 MHz.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This gives the ideal resonant frequency of a lossless LC circuit. Real circuits have resistance and parasitic capacitance and inductance, so the measured resonance will differ slightly.
Frequently asked questions
What is resonance?
The frequency where the inductive and capacitive reactances cancel, so the circuit responds most strongly.
Why use microhenries and picofarads?
They are common component units; the tool converts them to henries and farads before applying the formula.
