iCloud Photo Date Organizer
Propose year/month folders for photos by date.
Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded — your input is processed on this device and discarded when you close the tab.
iCloud Photo Date Organizer
This tool only proposes a folder plan for image files you choose. It does not move, rename or upload anything, and it does not connect to any iCloud account or photo library.
How to use this tool
- Choose image files. Each file is read on this device.
- Build the plan. Where a photo carries a taken date inside the file, that date is used; otherwise the file modification date is used.
- Copy the plan and move the files into the proposed year/month folders yourself.
Worked example
The sample data (not real files) has two photos taken on 2024-05-06, which are proposed for folder 2024/05, and a scan dated 2023-11-02, proposed for 2023/11. In testing, a JPEG carrying the taken date 2024:05:06 07:08:09 inside its file was read back as 2024-05-06T07:08:09.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This is a plan only: no file is moved or renamed by this tool. A photo with no taken date inside the file falls back to its modification date, which is the date it was last saved or copied, not necessarily the date it was taken. Files whose dates cannot be read at all go to an unknown-date folder in the plan.
Frequently asked questions
What is the taken date, exactly?
It is the DateTimeOriginal value stored inside a JPEG by the camera or phone. Screenshots, scans and edited copies often do not carry one.
Why use year/month folders?
They sort chronologically in any file manager and keep any single folder from growing to thousands of files.
