iCloud Duplicate Photo Finder

Find image files with byte-for-byte identical contents.

iCloud Duplicate Photo Finder

This tool works only on image files you choose from your own device. It does not connect to, access or read any iCloud account or photo library, and no file is uploaded.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose image files. Select as many as you like; each file is hashed on this device.
  2. Find duplicates. Files with byte-for-byte identical contents are grouped together.
  3. Check, then delete yourself. Keep one copy of each group and delete the rest in your own photo app or file manager.

Worked example

The sample data (not real files) has beach.jpg and beach-copy.jpg at 2,457,600 bytes each with identical contents, beach-edited.jpg at 2,500,000 bytes, and sunset.jpg. The result is 1 duplicate group with about 2.34 MB in extra copies. The edited photo is not flagged, even though it looks similar, because its bytes differ.

What this tool does not do / Limits

Only exact-byte duplicates are found. A photo that was resized, recompressed, cropped or edited in any way is a different file and will not be flagged, however similar it looks. The hash check needs a secure page (https or localhost); on an insecure page the tool says so instead of guessing. This tool deletes nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Why wasn’t my resized copy flagged?

Because resizing changes the file’s bytes. This tool compares contents exactly, so it cannot recognise photos that merely look alike.

Are my photos uploaded to be compared?

No. Each file is hashed in your browser and only the hash is used for grouping; the photos never leave the device.
