Flooring Material Calculator

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the room length and width in feet.
  2. Enter how many square feet one box covers, from the product label.
  3. Enter a waste allowance for cuts, for example 10%, and press Generate.

Worked example

A 15 ft by 12 ft room is 180 sq ft; with a 10% waste allowance that is 198 sq ft, and at 20 sq ft per box that rounds up to 10 boxes.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This is an estimate with a stated waste allowance. It assumes a rectangular room and does not deduct fixtures or account for pattern matching, plank direction or awkward shapes. Measure on site before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Why add waste?

Cuts at walls, corners and doorways use up material that never ends up on the floor, so ordering exactly the room area usually runs short.

Should waste be higher for patterned floors?

Often yes. Patterns that must line up across rows can waste more than plain planks, so check the product guidance.
