What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool hashes a locally chosen file in your browser with SHA-256 and compares it to the hash you type. Nothing is uploaded, and a match only proves the file matches that hash, not that its source is trustworthy.

Frequently asked questions

Does it upload my file?

No. Hashing happens in your browser and the file never leaves your device.

What does a mismatch mean?

The file differs from the one the expected hash was made from, or the expected hash was typed wrong.
