How to use this tool
- Enter the wall length and height in feet and the sheet size in feet.
- Enter a waste allowance for cuts and breakage, for example 10%.
- Press Generate to see the wall area, exact sheets and the whole sheets to buy.
Worked example
A 12 ft by 8 ft wall is 96 sq ft. A 4 ft by 8 ft sheet covers 32 sq ft, so exactly 3 sheets; with a 10% waste allowance that is 3.30, rounded up to 4 sheets.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This is an estimate with a stated waste allowance. It does not deduct doors or windows, and it does not count screws, tape or joint compound. Measure on site before ordering, and check how sheets fit around openings and corners.
Frequently asked questions
Why round up?
Sheets are sold whole, so a part sheet still means buying one more; rounding up keeps the job from running short.
Should I deduct a door or window?
For a rough order you can leave it in, which adds spare material; for a tight order, subtract the opening area from the wall area first.
