How to use this tool

Worked example
The built-in sample holds two paragraphs: Hello world and Second paragraph here. The analyzer reports 2 paragraphs, 5 words and 32 characters (11 for Hello world plus 21 for Second paragraph here, counting spaces inside paragraphs). At 200 words per minute the reading time rounds to under 1 minute.
What this tool does not do / Limits
Only word/document.xml is counted: headers, footers, footnotes, comments and text boxes are not included, and tracked deletions are not counted because deleted runs use a different tag. Reading time uses 200 words per minute and is an estimate, not a measured reading speed.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my word processor show a different count?
Most processors also count headers, footers, footnotes and text boxes. This page counts the main document body only, so a small difference is expected.
Are hyphenated words one word or two?
One word here, because words are split on whitespace only.
