Discount Calculator

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Either enter a discount percentage, or enter the sale price to work out the discount instead. If both are given, the sale price wins.
  3. Press Calculate and read the saving and final price.

Worked example

With the sample (original 200, discount 25%), the saving is 50 and the final price is 150: 200 × 25 / 100 = 50. Enter a sale price of 150 instead, with the discount blank, and the tool reports the same pair in reverse: 25% off.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This tool calculates the discount only. It does not add sales tax, shipping or card fees, which are charged on top of (or sometimes on) the discounted price depending on the seller's rules. This tool does arithmetic only and is not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out a discount in my head?

Take 10% by moving the decimal point one place (10% of 200 is 20), then multiply: 25% is two-and-a-half lots of 10%, so 50.

If I know the sale price, how do I find the discount?

Subtract the sale price from the original, divide by the original and multiply by 100.
