Capacitor Code Calculator

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the 3-digit code printed on the capacitor.
  2. Press Generate to see the value in pF, nF and microfarads.
  3. Use Load sample for code 104, or Clear to start again.

Worked example

For code 104, the first two digits give 10 and the third digit adds 4 zeros: 10 followed by 0000 is 100,000 pF, which is 100 nF or 0.1 microfarads.

What this tool does not do / Limits

This decodes standard 3-digit ceramic capacitor codes only. It does not cover letter tolerance codes, voltage ratings, or codes printed on electrolytic capacitors, which use a different marking style.

Frequently asked questions

What does the third digit mean?

It is the number of zeros to add after the first two digits. In 104, the 4 adds four zeros to 10, giving 100,000 pF.

Why are there three units?

Picofarads, nanofarads and microfarads are the same value at different scales: 1,000 pF is 1 nF, and 1,000 nF is 1 microfarad.
