Worked example
1920 x 1080 shares the greatest common divisor 120, so 1920 / 120 = 16 and 1080 / 120 = 9, giving 16:9.
What this tool does not do / Limits
This simplifies the two whole numbers you enter. It does not resize, crop or convert any image, and it rounds nothing: decimal dimensions must be converted to whole numbers first.

What is the greatest common divisor?
The largest whole number that divides both the width and the height exactly, used here to reduce the ratio to simplest form.
Does 16:9 describe a size?
No. It describes shape only: any size with the same proportions, from 640 x 360 to 3840 x 2160, is 16:9.
