ASCII Art Text Generator

How to use this tool

  1. Type a short word or phrase (20 characters or fewer) using letters and digits.
  2. Pick a drawing character if you want a different look, then press Generate.
  3. Copy the result and paste it into any plain-text place, such as a code comment or a text file.

Worked example

Typing HI with the # character draws H as a tall block with a crossbar and I as a centred column. The five rows read: row 1 '# # #####', row 2 '# # # ', and so on, with each letter five characters wide.

What this tool does not do / Limits

Only letters A to Z, digits 0 to 9, spaces and a few punctuation marks have drawn shapes; other characters are shown as blank space. Lowercase letters are drawn as capitals, and very long text is capped at 20 characters so lines do not wrap badly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my text look different in some apps?

The art relies on every character being the same width. Use a monospace font (such as a code editor) or the spacing will shift.

Can I use lowercase letters?

Yes. Lowercase letters are converted to capitals before drawing, because the font only has one set of shapes.
